Philosophy: I specialize in couples’ relationship therapy, in treating
sexual problems of all kinds in both individuals and couples, in
cognitive-behavioral treatment of depression and anxiety and in psychodynamic
therapy for a variety of concerns. I also do EMDR for specific problems.
My approach is to evaluate each person’s situation thoroughly and to decide
together the most appropriate treatment. Whether seeing me for brief or longer
term therapy, my patients are seeking change. Sometimes that change is
behavioral as in overcoming a fear of flying in airplanes. Other times the goal
is broader: to be more fulfilled in life, to communicate better in
relationships, to find more meaning in work or creative pursuits.
For mort than twenty years I have helped individuals and couples overcome sexual
concerns. These include lack of interest in sex, trouble talking about sexual
matters and dysfunctions, like erection and orgasm problems. I see a number of
women, often with their partners, to resolve sexual pain problems. I also treat
men with internet pornography addictions. I have taught sex therapy to graduate
students for many years.
In addition to my graduate degree, I have pursued extensive additional training
over the years to maximize my effectiveness with patients.
